Answers

  1. How do you pronounce "Synesis"?

"SIN-a-sis" ... emphasis on the first syllable.

  2. What does "Synesis" mean?

Etymology: New Latin, from Greek, understanding, sense, from synienai to bring together, understand, from syn- + hienai to send
    Date: circa 1891
: a grammatical construction in which agreement or reference is according to sense rather than strict syntax (as anyone and them in "if anyone calls, tell them I am out")
    From
    Merriam Webster dictionary

The etymology that contributed to the choice of the name was "intuitive understanding or wisdom".

  3. Why should I use Synesis instead of one of the larger job shops?

Full disclosure of rates gives you more freedom to control your raises (just negotiate one directly with the company for which you work). You also have the ability to earn far beyond your own income through referrals, which none of the national companies can ever match. The reason are too numerous to list ... go back over our website!

  4. How often will I be paid?

Every two weeks. The pay period ends every other Friday. Payroll runs on Monday and paychecks are (or can be) direct deposited on Wednesday.

  5. Doesn't this involve more work than just giving a resume to a shop?

Yes. It also involves a much greater payoff with no risk. There is never any frustration when you find out the billing rate as there ALWAYS is when you work for the big shops. There's also no limitations due to non-compete clauses in the employment agreement.

  6. I've never contracted before. Can Synesis help me?

Yes. If you need ideas on how to approach companies, give us a call. The easiest way is to simply send resumes to the hiring companies in your target area -- NOT to other contract shops! However, if the only positions you can locate are through other shops, make sure they accept non-W2 arrangements which will allow you to take advantage of Synesis referrals that you can make directly to the target company.

  7. What benefits do you offer?

At Synesis, we offer direct deposit and a 401(k) plan for which you are immediately eligible subject only to the monthly sign-up time. See our Benefits page for a history of contract employment and benefits. We offer a 401(k) because that's something that you cannot get on your own. Virtually any other benefit can be purchased. We don't reduce your rate in order to buy benefits that you may not need!

  8. Can I still get per diem?

Yes. If you are legally eligible for per diem, we will work it into the pay plan. See our web pages explaining some of the requirements. Specifically, we require an additional 7.65% over the standard markup to protect us from future IRS audits of your personal returns. If you were not eligible, we become liable for FICA taxes and penalties on the per diem amounts that you were paid.
